Open Letter

To the Ministry of Health, Mr. Minister,

Subject: Protest against the transfer of specialist doctors from the Health Centres of Chalandritsa & Erymantheia to on-call duty at the Aigio Hospital.

Mr. Minister,

When at the beginning of the Pandemic, in the spring of 2020, we experienced the first transfers of Doctors from the Health Center of Erymantheia (Municipality of Erymanthos) to the Hospital of Rio, we did not react, we did not protest, knowing the unprecedented situation we were all living in at that time, and so we supported the national effort to deal with Covid-19.

However, it is not possible to hear every day that preventive measures are being taken to deal with the pandemic, that new hires of Doctors are being made, that Private Doctors are being requisitioned, etc. and yet that additional transfers of doctors are made from the already understaffed to Medical Staff Regional Health Centers, which instead of having been further strengthened and organized (as they should have been for years or even recently due to the criticality of the situation), to remain "In the same work, spectators".

Mr. Minister,

The Regional Health Centers were created in order to be able to offer Primary Health Care to these remote and isolated fellow citizens, who, going against the current of the times, continue to guard Thermopylae for all of us who live in cities, experiencing adverse weather conditions (cold, floods in winter, fires in summer) and many other difficulties.

It is not possible to tolerate the further degradation in health offer by these Regional Health Centers, the unplanned increase of their competences, the ignorance of the State about what the "National Health System" of our country needs today.

We submit our protest to you, we go along with the voice of protest of our Municipality (Municipality of Erymanthos), the Associations of the region, the "Union of Hospital Doctors of Achaia", who react with their announcement to the new movements of Doctors, taking into account that the Medical Staff may also get sick, be absent from work, need to rest some days of the week from the heavy workload they experience every day.

When the movement of Medical Personnel does not solve the increased problems currently faced by the "National Health System", When the MP for Achaia of New Democracy, Mr. Angelos Tsigris, submitted a question to you on the same issue a few days ago,

Asking,

The immediate cessation of transfers of Medical Personnel from Health Centers of our region to any other Health Structure of our Prefecture.The immediate prevention of new Medical Staff, to further strengthen the already understaffed Regional Health Centers of our Municipality.To resolve this issue, if necessary, we will also contact the Prime Minister, because the issue does not concern only us, but all Health Centers.
